Location: 566 Eddington, Cambridge

The Project-

A cluster of homes takes shape where Eddington meets the broader North West Cambridge vision, offering rentals built to last in a balanced setting. Rising alongside them are places for people to gather, green areas shaped by care, while every detail leans into low-impact living without making a show of it.

The Challenge

Roofs and terraces on the housing units had to work better, last longer. Bennett Construction brought in experts to help meet those goals. Water runoff was a concern - solutions were built into the layout. Each balcony was lifted up, matching the indoor floor level precisely. Plants found their way into tight urban spaces, adding pockets of life. Design plans stayed intact, schedule stayed on track. Nature slipped between concrete edges without slowing progress down.

Our Solution

On behalf of the client, Green Roofers delivered:

Water slows on rooftops built blue by design. These setups handle heavy rain through careful planning. Flow gets managed step by step across flat surfaces painted in cool hues.

Built-up slab paving using pedestal supports creates even, elevated areas on balconies and terraces. When set this way, flat usable spaces rise above the base structure. Each slab locks into place atop adjustable mounts that handle uneven substrates beneath. Level results come easily without major construction work involved.

Built-in planting spaces are placed where they bring nature into hard surfaces, turning bare spots into living zones outside.

Everything was built, brought, and set up while working step by step with Bennett Construction.

Keeping care going over time, while checking in regularly, helps the living roof and water-friendly rooftop work well for years. How things grow above and how rain moves below stay balanced through steady attention.

Outcomes

Thanks to Green Roofers stepping in, the project gained extra strength. Their work quietly improved how things turned out. Each move they made brought something useful. Because of their presence, results stretched further than expected. Progress felt smoother once they joined. Little by little, their role shaped better outcomes. Without drawing attention, they lifted the whole effort

A splash of color on rooftops does more than stand out - it holds back rain when storms hit hard, slowing down how fast water rushes away. This delay gives city drains a chance to keep up without getting overwhelmed. Instead of vanishing into gutters right away, some rain stays put for a while, easing pressure on underground pipes. Even small pauses can make a difference across neighborhoods.

Plants chosen for variety breathe life into housing areas, helping bees while pulling carbon from the air. A mix of species takes root where people live, quietly cutting emissions through natural growth.

Built-up slabs provide a steady, even surface on balconies and terraces. Drainage works well underneath because of the lift. Usability gets a quiet boost without drawing attention to it.

Built-in plant beds bring life to shared yards, weaving nature into daily view while helping the project tread lightly on the environment.
