Coronation Square
Commercial-Housing Redevelopment
Location: 118 Oliver Rd, Leyton, London, E10 5UJ
The Project-
The new Coronation Square development will provide 750 new homes as part of the regeneration of Leyton town centre, with 50% of the homes designated as affordable. The development includes a new town square, commercial space including shops and restaurants, and a range of initiatives to put sustainability at the heart of the project.
The Challenge
Walton Borough Council and developer Taylor Wimpey were seeking to maximise the sustainability of the project’s expansive roof space and to mitigate excess run-off during high-precipitation events. The project team sought specialist expertise to design and deliver a scheme that would be in keeping with the project's aesthetics and fully aligned with the construction programme.
Our Solution
On behalf of the client, Green Roofers delivered:
8,000 m² of blue roofs for stormwater management.
Living roofs seeded with a vibrant mix of native wildflowers, sedum, and resilient species of grasses.
Designed, delivered, and installed across a multi-phase scheme in collaboration with the client’s on-site team.
Ongoing maintenance and consultation of further green and blue roof opportunities within the wider development.
Outcomes
Green Roofers’ involvement in the project has added value to the development in the following ways:
Our blue roof system controls stormwater runoff by temporarily storing rainwater during heavy precipitation, reducing the risk of urban flooding and easing strain on local sewer systems.
The Green planting selection adds to the biodiversity of the project in an urban area, encouraging local wildlife. It also minimises CO2 emissions.
“Coronation Square is a major new development for East London and we are proud to have added value by ensuring the roof element is as sustainable as possible”
